They have raced week in and week out... they have trained and given their all to the cheers of the crowd. They have given us excitement and great entertainment, but now it is our turn to look after them and find them a home.
This is when the Retired Greyhound Trust (RGT) steps in to help to find them a caring home.
Thousands of families love the dogs for their gentle and affectionate nature. Greyhounds are wonderful companions who are fantastic with children. Natural couch potatoes, greyhounds love to be lazy and need just two 20-minute walks a day.
About 9000 greyhounds retire from racing every year who need to be loved and cared for. Each track has it's own branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust.
A message from our local branch:
The Belle Vue Retired Greyhound Trust was founded in August 2009 with the full support of the track and General Manager Mick Hardy, with the intention of providing an additional organisation to assist in the responsible Rehoming of ex-Belle Vue racers. This is intended to supplement the excellent work already being done by the Manchester RGT & other RGT branches in the area, together with the other Re-homing Charities who work tirelessly to re-home ex-racers. The primary aims of our Branch will be the responsible re-homing of ex-Belle Vue racers with a process that is available to all, has manageable timescales, and is entirely transparent in all of its dealings. There are many good examples of re-homing charities both within and outside of the RGT – we will try to replicate all the good ideas to provide a service to Owners that is second to none. The speed with which we are able to home ex-racers depends heavily on the help and support we get from Owners, Trainers, and track alike.
