Stock Car at Belle VueBelle Vue Greyhound Stadium gets set for full throttle action on Sunday 21st March at 1.00.pm and enters it's twelfth consecutive season of short circuit motorsport in Manchester.

The Kirkmanshulme Lane Stadium has become one of the sports cult tracks with short straights and tight bends leading to some of the best oval action in the UK particularly when cars sweep and corner sideways three and four abreast!

Action on the 21st ses the second staging of the KING OF THE NORTH, inaugurated in 2009 for National Bangers [ 2 litre limit ] and provided one of the Banger events of the year in Manchester.

This years title carries extra significance with the winner also gaining automatic qualification for a much sought after place on the big grid for the prestigious National Banger World Championship Final to be staged at Ipswich in Suffolk in October.

Jon Wolstencroft `Wusty', Joe Franklin and the Buckley brothers lead a promising early entry list with the biggest part of the grid expected to be Belle Vue `visitors' having an eye on that World Final place, but don't discount Manchester's Manning brothers who are masters of destruction on their local track!

Significantly, Sunday opens the official BriSCA Formula One season and the event offers more than an early season work out, for the first time valuable qualification points are at stake for 2010 National Series Points Championship qualification.

With some of the top men still busy completing cars after a hectic winter in New Zealand it offers a superb opportunity for others to pick up points. Whilst iconic hero Frankie Wainman Junior may be unusually missing from the opening grid and may not get on track until early April with a new shale machine not yet complete – and a new car under construction for brother Danny, 212 will probably line up in Dad's car!

However, this should up the ante and leave the meeting wide open – certainly veteran Rob Bradsell one of the early entries is looking for an outside chance of taking the Granville Holmes Trophy Final. Indications are that F1 numbers will be attractive enough for this season opener. BriSCA F2 Stock Cars are always popular around Kirky Lane and will be up to speed as their shale season opened with a World Qualifier in Norfolk a couple of weeks ago. Belle Vue always attracts a cross section of shale racings' best drivers including usually one or two surprises!

Cambridgeshire shale impressario Andrew Palmer will be the man to beat although with Bert Finnikin, Allen Cooper, Dean Simpson, Daz Shaw and Chris Mitchell amongst early entrants and a useful brand new car from Martin Ford, competition is likely to be particularly fierce.

The Rebels Racers make a welcome return to Kirky Lane as part of the opening celebrations after a decades absence from Manchester. This independently organised formula continue to go from strength to strength and around 24 entries are expected for their opening session of the 2010 campaign.

This formula is relatively unique as every element of car construction/ tyres is controlled including engine cc to ensure all cars are equal and therefore it is the drivers skill that matters. Space framed chassis construction, powered by Reliant engines with attractive and unusual body shells this full contact formula never fails to entertain and we welcome them back to Belle Vue!
